We Are EarthFuel

What Is EarthFuel Compost?

Compost is important. It is not dirt or soil; it is better! Compost is a soil additive that is abundant in organic matter. When compost is mixed with soil, it creates a nutrient filled amendment for your landscaping needs.

How Is EarthFuel Compost Made?

Produced by the City of Lincoln’s Solid Waste Management Division, EarthFuel compost is created from grass clippings, leaves and shredded wood. EarthFuel contains many nutrients and organic matter. Its earthy aroma looks similar to dark topsoil. EarthFuel is tested by an independent lab to ensure the product has reached stability to allow our customers to make informed decisions about their landscaping needs. If you are curious about the latest lab results, they can be found at

Where Can I Use Compost?

Compost can be used in your garden, flower beds, as a top dressing to rejuvenate your lawn, and more. It has numerous benefits and uses which include:

  • Saving money by reducing the need for fertilizers and pesticides.

  • Improving soil fertility and increasing water infiltration.

  • Preventing the erosion of valuable nutrient-rich topsoil.

It is important to realize that soil must have the capacity to function as a living organism. Without healthy soil, there is no way to sustain life as we know it. Healthy soil will also help plants pull (sequester) carbon from the atmosphere into the ground naturally. Think global, buy local compost; our planet will thank you later.

How Can I Obtain EarthFuel Compost?

EarthFuel compost may be obtained for no cost at the North 48th Street Transfer Station. This site is only for small vehicles and/or trailers that do not exceed 60 square feet of cargo area.
The material is available on a first come, first served basis. Individuals must self-load the compost by hand.
