Will Braces Hurt?
Umm… a little. All orthodontic treatment causes some discomfort, regardless of the type of treatment, but remember, everyone is unique, and not all discomfort is pain. Most patients— kids or adults— would say braces or Invisalign are uncomfortable, but not necessarily painful. Luckily, it always gets better and the results are worth it! We’re sorry, we’re not trying to be a pain in the teeth.
Don’t worry though. We work extra hard to be gentle and we have our own unique ways to ease the discomfort through fun prizes and community partnerships for goodies that our patients can enjoy.
When Do We Want to See You?
Ideally, at 7-years-old, but whenever you have questions or concerns, we’d love to meet you! You’ll be happy to know that a referral to the orthodontist from your family dentist is no longer necessary and orthodontic exams are more like a well-child check at the doctor.
Dr. Willett wants to meet you, make sure everything is going well, create a relationship, and get you on your way to a healthy and beautiful smile. An early appointment with Dr. Willett doesn’t mean you will be leaving the office with braces, but it could save you money and time down the road.

While the majority of the patients we treat here at Lincoln Orthodontics still end up choosing traditional metal braces as a way to straighten their teeth, Dr. Willett takes pride in the straight answers she provides and the options patients are given. While metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment, you have several other options, including Invisalign and clear braces.
