Sylvan: Your Personal Connection To Learning

Sylvan changes lives. It really does. We know it because we see it every day. Parents and kids come through our doors for help with everything from wanting to get ahead in college prep to correcting small setbacks, and overcoming a long academic history of feeling defeated and hopeless. The Sylvan experience gives kids what they need to walk away with confidence – thankful and thriving – and it is everything to us. We often hear, “Sylvan changed our lives!” This is our greatest compliment and is why we are here.

Struggling in school affects everything for kids and their families. Relationships with peers, parents, and teachers are strained when kids struggle. The ability or confidence to try new things is hugely impacted by academic obstacles. Don’t wait. Sylvan can help.

Who We Are

Marissa, former CPA and a second-generation Sylvan owner, is the beating heart of Sylvan. Her mother-in-law, Lori Roh, began her career as a middle school business teacher, then started her first Sylvan Learning Center in 1996. For the past 24 years, the Roh’s have focused on helping children thrive in school – giving families peace of mind!

“I saw the passion in my mother-in-law, Lori and – though changing careers wasn’t easy – I knew it was the right choice for me. It really set in when I was able to hear first-hand, at her Rosary, about the impact Lori had on children and teachers. With Sylvan I get to make a difference and I love what I do; helping to develop learners and leaders and living through their success stories every day. Choosing Sylvan has changed my life too!” - Marissa

As Regional Director, Lacey oversees all center and education operations for Sylvan of Nebraska. A former HR professional and coach, Lacey chose a career in the tutoring business because she loves the personalized approach that Sylvan takes; focusing on the needs of each individual student to help them gain the confidence and skills needed to be successful in school.

“I’ve always wanted to have a fulfilling career and I found it with Sylvan. The best part is being able to see how Sylvan impacts a student’s whole life when they get on track academically. Kids sometimes come to us beat down by academics, lacking confidence socially, and then by the end of it they are thriving and trying new things. It is so much bigger than grades or words per minute. It is about their whole life.” - Lacey

Both Marissa and Lacey are mothers and know the struggle parents face every day making sure their kids are getting all of their needs met, including in the educational setting. They are here to help.
